There’s a certain buzz in the air when change is calling. Sometimes it shows up as restlessness, a craving for something new, or a magnetic pull toward unfamiliar territory. It doesn’t always come with clarity—but it often arrives with urgency. That’s the energetic fingerprint of Gate 35 in Human Design, often called The Gate of Change or The Gate of Experience.
When this Gate is activated by a Human Design transit, that call for change moves through the collective. Suddenly, we’re all feeling it—the desire to break routine, shake things up, and dive into something that feels new, meaningful, and real. Whether or not Gate 35 is defined in your personal chart, this transit can open a door to powerful experiences. The key is learning how to walk through it without losing your footing.
In Human Design, transits are energetic overlays caused by planetary movement through the 64 gates of the BodyGraph. They don’t permanently change your core design, but they do influence the tone and tempo of your lived experience. Think of them like energetic weather—they pass through and color the landscape of your inner world. When you understand how to read and respond to that weather, you can move with it, instead of reacting against it. In this blog post, we’ll explore what Gate 35 is, how it behaves during a transit of the Sun, Moon, or a planet, and how to work with it—whether it’s a familiar energy in your chart or a temporary guest stirring things up.
Gate 35 lives in the Throat Center—the energetic hub for expression, manifestation, and speaking things into form. It reaches downward toward the Solar Plexus Center, where it seeks connection with Gate 36 to form the Channel of Transitoriness, also known as the Channel of Experience.
The energy here is part of the Collective Sensing Circuitry, which means it’s not just personal—it’s designed to gather experiences, learn from them, and share the story. Gate 35 says: I’ve been through something—and I’ve got something to say about it.
This is a Gate that thrives on novelty, but not just for entertainment. It’s wired for transformation through lived experience. Whether that experience comes through travel, relationships, creativity, emotional risk, or career leaps, Gate 35 wants to move. It wants to feel. It’s driven by curiosity and often chased by dissatisfaction.
During a transit, that craving for movement gets amplified. You may feel a sudden urge to change something big—your job, your location, your relationships—or simply to try something you’ve never done before. There’s beauty in that momentum. But there’s also danger in chasing experience without intention.
Gate 35 can become addicted to newness, mistaking motion for meaning. And because it connects to the emotional Solar Plexus through Gate 36, it carries a built-in lesson: slow down. Feel your way forward. Emotional clarity is the secret ingredient to aligned change.

Gate 35 is all about action. Gate 36, found in the Solar Plexus, is all about emotion. Together, they form a full Channel that connects emotional waves with lived experience. Gate 36 brings emotional turbulence and sensitivity to change, while Gate 35 brings the urge to leap forward and speak from what’s been lived.
This Channel holds a beautiful tension: the desire to move meets the wisdom of emotional timing. When both Gates are defined in your chart, or temporarily activated through a transit, the pressure to leap into something new can be powerful. But so is the invitation to wait for clarity.
That’s one of the deeper lessons of Gate 35—change is not the same as progress. And rushing into a new experience doesn’t mean you’ll get the transformation you’re after. Without emotional grounding, the pursuit of something “better” can leave you feeling emptier than before.
But when emotional clarity leads the way? Gate 35 can become a portal into meaningful, aligned evolution. Experience becomes a teacher. Story becomes medicine. And your voice carries wisdom rooted in truth, not escape.
If You Have Gate 35 Defined
If this Gate is defined in your Human Design chart, you already carry the energy of exploration and storytelling. When a transit hits this gate, that drive just becomes louder. You might feel compelled to initiate something big—a move, a breakup, a creative risk. The important thing is to pause and check: is this change coming from inspiration or impatience?
This is a beautiful time to deepen your path, pursue meaningful adventure, and express your lived wisdom. But don’t let restlessness hijack the wheel. Choose your “yes” moments intentionally, follow your Strategy and Authority, and trust that the best stories come from presence—not just motion.
If You Have Gate 36 Defined (But Not Gate 35)
This transit temporarily completes your Channel of Experience. Your emotional waves may suddenly feel like they want expression, direction, or action. You might feel a new sense of confidence about something you’ve been emotionally sitting with for a while.
This is a powerful time to initiate, teach, or move—but only if that action has been waiting patiently for clarity. Otherwise, the transit may bring pressure to act before you’re ready. Give your emotional process space to breathe. If clarity is present, go ahead and act. If not, wait. The energy will pass, and the real opportunity will remain.
If You Have Neither Gate 35 Nor 36 Defined
This transit might feel like a sudden gust of “let’s change everything.” You may find yourself drawn to try something totally new, open up emotionally, or speak about a part of yourself you usually keep private.
Use this time to explore—but gently. You’re not meant to commit to a huge decision just because the energy is loud. Let your curiosity guide you without expectation. Let your Strategy and Authority lead. The desire to shake things up doesn’t always mean you’re meant to. Sometimes it just means you’re ready to feel something more deeply.
Gate 35 energy can be intoxicating. It’s the rush of booking a one-way ticket to Katmandu, signing up for a workshop that scares you (in a good way), or launching that project you’ve been sitting on for months. But it can also push you into experiences that aren’t rooted in your truth. So how do you tell the difference?
Aligned choices feel clear, even if they're a little scary. They may stretch you, but they don’t leave you feeling spun out or untethered. They also usually comes after some emotional processing—an inner yes that builds quietly.
Impulsive choices, on the other hand, feel urgent, dramatic, and a little ungrounded. They often comes with a spike of emotion, the kind that clouds long-term vision. If you’re making a major life change and you’re not sure whether it’s aligned, pause, and then ask yourself: Am I moving toward something that matters—or away from something I’m avoiding?
Gate 35 is not about reckless change. It’s about intentional expansion. It’s about choosing experiences that deepen your self-trust, your voice, your growth—not just distract you from discomfort.
If Gate 35 is defined in your chart, use this time to choose one or two meaningful experiences that feel aligned with your bigger story. Don’t scatter your energy chasing every opportunity. Instead, ask: what experience will shape me in a way that matters?
This is also a beautiful time to share your voice. Gate 35 carries the power of storytelling. Whether it’s through writing, speaking, art, or coaching, let your lived wisdom come through.
If Gate 35 is undefined in your chart, treat this time as a playground. Try something new. Share a story you’ve been keeping private. Let yourself stretch without expecting every new thing to become “the thing.” You’re just here to experience.
No matter your configuration, give yourself permission to feel. Let emotion be your compass—but not your GPS. Use your Human Design Strategy and Authority to guide the how and when of your next step.
Every Human Design transit has its shadows, and Gate 35 is no exception. One common trap with Gate 35 is jumping from one experience to the next without finishing or integrating the last one. That kind of movement may look exciting on the outside, but it can often leave you feeling fragmented.
Another challenge is over-promising. Because Gate 35 lives in the Throat Center, there’s a temptation to speak about your experience with drama, intensity, or exaggeration—especially when you haven’t fully digested it. There’s nothing wrong with expressive storytelling, but stay grounded in your truth.
Comparison can also creep in. You might look around and think other people are having more exciting experiences or growing faster than you. But Gate 35 isn’t about speed or scale. It’s about alignment. It’s about choosing what’s yours to live—not what looks good from the outside.
The most powerful antidote to these shadows is presence. Choose depth in your experiences over novelty. Choose emotional clarity over urgency. Choose alignment over performance. And most of all, trust that your story is unfolding at the perfect pace.
When the Gate 35 transit passes, give yourself space to reflect. What did you try? What landed? What stretched you—and what grounded you?
Journaling during or after the transit can help you anchor the insights you received. You might notice that certain themes or desires show up each time Gate 35 is activated. That’s valuable data for your Human Design experiment.
Ask yourself: What part of me was seeking change—and what kind of change actually felt good? You don’t need to keep chasing new experiences. You just need to keep listening to what your life is asking you to become.
Gate 35, when used intentionally, can create rich stories and powerful clarity. It teaches you not just how to live more—but how to live more honestly.
Gate 35 is the invitation to shake things up. To step off the predictable path and feel something real. To risk discomfort for the sake of becoming more you. But it’s not here to push you into chaos. It’s here to reconnect you with what’s alive inside you.
